Description

Skin tags are small, soft growths that hang off the skin. They can vary in colour and size, from a few millimetres up to 5cm wide. Skin tags are usually found on the neck, armpits, around the groin and under the breasts. They can also grow on the eyelids or under the folds of the buttocks. They are common and harmless and do not usually cause any pain or discomfort.

Cause

Skin tags are made up of lose collagen fibres and blood vessels surrounded by the skin. Collagen is a type of protein found throughout the body. Skin tags tend to grow in the skin folds where the skin rubs against itself. Both men and women can develop skin tags for no apparent reason however can be more common in obese individuals due to skin chaffing and also more common in pregnant women as a result of changes in their hormone levels.

Treatment

Skin tag removal using electrolysis is a basic procedure that offers amazing results and is highly effective on any part of the body. A probe is used (the size and thickness of an eyelash) to treat the tag, where a small burst energy is expelled. The treatment is mildly uncomfortable and a slight stinging sensation may be experienced but lasts a matter of seconds. Once treated, it is very unlikely the skin tags will reappear.

Aftercare

Following your treatment you may experience:

• A slight reddening/swelling of the skin in the area.
• Warmth in the area that has been treated.
• The skin may feel itchy as it heals.

Dependant on the size, amount and the location of the tag(s) they will be immediately removed or reduced in size. If this is the case, the remains of the tag will naturally drop off within a matter of days.
